1. If I come into your office, can I get my certificate today?

No! Please fill out the application in its entirety, enclose the fee and a copy of your drivers license.  Please also include a self addressed stamped envelope.

2. Do I have to show an ID to get a copy of a birth or death certificate?

Yes, something with your signature and photo if possible.

3. How long does it take to get a copy of a certificate through the mail?

Please allow at least 7 business days to receive your certificate. Our office usually turns all mail requests around in 3 to 5 business days after receipt.

4. Do you have marriage and divorce records?

No, copies of these records can be obtained from the Spencer County Clerk's Office:

5. If I was born in another county or state can I get a copy of my birth certificate?

No, this office registers and issues Spencer County birth records only. Each county in Indiana has its own Vital Records Section.

6. Can I get a social security card at your office?

No, social security numbers/cards can only be issued by the Social Security Agency. Please contact the Social Security Office nearest you.
